Grade 1-2

Gr 1-2 End of Year Slide Show

Dear Parents,

The slide show below includes shots from Fun and Field Day, sharing our Memory Books with the class, our Pond Party and students working on their portfolios.

Despite the windy and cool afternoon, the class had a blast up at the pond. Thank you to all who brought in special treats. We were also able to acknowledge and celebrate summer birthdays today.

They did a great job with the play, Hats Off to Ms. Katzoff, Mrs. Hilliard and the class!

Hope to see some of you at the picnic tomorrow. Although a lot of work went home today, there will be a bit more tomorrow as well!

Thank you for your lovely, lovely children. This class has been a rare pleasure to teach.  Thank you to all for your help and support throughout the year.

Best,

Katharine and Kay

Celebrate our Artists! Open Studios is May 31st…

Join BCD’s teaching artists and K-9 students on Tuesday, May 31st from 3:30 – 5:30PM to celebrate artworks created during the spring trimester! Open Studios is a special opportunity for parents, families, and friends to view experimental and finished works of art in each of our three atelier spaces. Students and faculty will be present to talk about projects and experiences as they pull back the curtain on their ideas and processes. This term, our distinguished teaching artists included Tom O’Neil, Maggie Mailer, Ben Evans, and Max Spitzer. Come sip lemonade, view extraordinary works of art, and hear from the artists themselves!

Bird’s Nests and Family Trees

Dear Parents,

As you can see from the attached slide show, we had an absolutely idyllic day at the Pleasant Valley Nature Sanctuary in Lenox on Wednesday for our bird walk. We were lucky to see a bluebird and a goldfinch as well as some scene-stopping geese and goslings in one of the beautiful ponds. Thank you parent drivers, Julia Heaton, Sarah Bourla and Dan Simmonds for helping to make the trip possible.

Our class parents have been doing a great job of keeping you up to date about the upcoming events here at school from now until the end of the year on June 10th, but if you have any questions about next week’s music concert or school spirit week, please give Kay or I a call.

Thank you all so much for coming to our Author’s Teas last week. The children were so excited to have you here so they could share their written work with you all.

The Family Trees are coming along, with some completed and some near completion. Thank for sending in all that family information to make this project such a unique learning experience.

The slide show also includes some shots of the students making their own bird’s nest from materials they collected on a bird walk here at school. They show remarkable understanding of how, where and why birds make their nests, and though the floors were a mess, they really enjoyed the project!

Enjoy the weekend,
Best,

Katharine and Kay

Fifth Grade Book Drive!

Time for the annual Fifth Grade Book Drive!

In conjunction with Reader-to-Reader, a Springfield-based non-profit organization, the Fifth Grade is collecting books!

Reader-to-Reader serves children in rural and underserved communities in the US and around the world. We are excited to continue this community service project in 2016! Last year, Fifth Grade collected several hundred books for this important cause.

Please bring your gently used children’s books (through Grade 9) to the Fifth Grade homeroom in the next week. No textbooks, magazines, videos or reference materials, please!

Thanks for your support!
