At BCD, you will find a community of joyful learners and adventurous thinkers who thrive in an educational setting that offers them a learning experience that extends beyond the classroom. On BCD’s rural 26-acre campus you will find meadows and trails, a waterfall and a swimming pond, as well as four playing fields and two playgrounds. In the classroom, our students delve into a comprehensive academic program that includes an innovative curriculum that incorporates civic action. Our students experience our Signature Programs with hands-on instruction in our STEAM lab and develop outdoor skills in Outdoor Learning. Our youngest students have classes dedicated to social-emotional learning while our Middle School journeys to Montreal to experience French culture and practice their language skills. Our academic goals are based on five pillars that frame our curriculum and our culture: empathy, literacy, sustainability, engagement, and social justice.
Outside of the classroom, our students explore our incredible setting. The Preschool students plant and nurture an organic garden; the Lower School students walk the trails and study trees; our Middle School students run to soccer practice on wooded paths. We also encourage our students to think outward, in field trips and community service. In the winter, our school participates in Ski Friday, at which they ski as a school community on the slopes of Ski Butternut Mountain. On campus, we offer Nordic Skiing, and when the swimming pond freezes, we skate.
As a school community, we see the need to develop thoughtful leaders who can effect change. This is our purpose – to inspire, nurture and support a new generation of thinkers and doers. It starts with an educational experience that embraces learning in thought and action; at BCD, that experience can take place in a school building, in a forest or field, or in engagement with the greater community.
We also share a culture of belonging, one in which every student and family becomes part of our BCD community. Thank you for your interest in BCD. We hope you will visit us and see for yourself what it means to be part of BCD.
Warm regards,
Mary Warner
