This week, First Grade began their library journey by exploring our library routine. We begin by singing the library song, choosing meerkat helpers in the burrow, and then sharing a story. Our first share was Kate DiCamillo’s book, Louise: The Adventures of A Chicken, in which an ordinary hen has some extraordinary adventures. In addition to participating in a pirate raid, surviving a storm at sea and joining the circus, Louise is able to elude a voraciously hungry lion, see free her chicken colleagues from chicken prison and manages to find her way back to the henhouse. We concluded by creating our own Louise adventures including: an attack by a giant squid (Gabriel), going to the library (Hannah) and surviving a triceratops attack (Patrick).
