Our educational philosophy
Berkshire Country Day School’s intentional approach of inquiry, discovery, and discussion blends proven methods with emerging best practices to draw fully on the experiences and contributions of our entire school community.
Our comprehensive curriculum, which includes project-based and experiential learning, leverages the talents of our exemplary educators and the natural resources of our extraordinary campus
to inspire independence, academic excellence, and mutual respect.
Developed by the BCD Faculty, Spring 2016
Berkshire Country Day is comprised of four academic divisions:
(Three and Four Year-Olds)
The program provides a nurturing educational environment, while offering a child-centered curriculum to support each child’s learning style and development readiness. Children are encouraged to explore, play, take risks, listen, and find their voices in creative and expressive ways.
(Kindergarten through Grade 3)
Through a guided discovery and inquiry, students build a solid foundation in reading, writing and mathematics, explore and better their understanding of the world around them through science and social studies, discover their creative talents through music and art, and grow as responsive and responsible citizens through our social curriculum, Responsive Classroom.
(Grades 4 through 6)
It is our goal to develop independent learners, who take the initiative with tasks and work responsibly and enjoy a sense of accomplishment. Class discussions include a variety of topics such as respect, responsibility, courage, value-systems, decision-making, tolerance, excellence, success, manners, and service.
(Grades 7 through 9)
Students gain fundamental skills for successful learning: research, critical analysis, organization, listening, speaking, and writing across integrated curriculum areas. Faculty advisors monitor their advisee’s academic and personal progress, and counsel and advocate for their success.
BCD’s innovative faculty cultivates in students the descire, confidence, and skills to be creative learners and critical thinkers.
They are passionate, energetic, informed, creative and positive. They inspire, shape, and impact each student in meaningful ways that extend well beyond the classroom. They encourage originality, instill confidence, and model leadership.
