During the admission process, we work closely with each family to address your specific questions and concerns. We also thought you might find this list of Frequently Asked Questions helpful as you explore whether Berkshire Country Day School is the best fit for your child.

What are the official school hours?

The school day begins at 8:00 am and ends at 3:00 pm. We do offer a supervised early drop off from 7:30 – 8:00 am at no charge. Half-day programs are available for our preschool students.

Do you have an afterschool program?

We offer afterschool care daily (with a few exceptions) from 3:00 – 5:30 pm, with a fee charged in 15 minute increments. Older students typically spend part of this time in a “study hall” setting. Most Middle and Upper School students are also active in our athletics program from 3:00-4:30 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. (See below for more details.)

We also run exciting weekly after-school enrichment programs with topics like “Nature Explorers,”  “Bookmaking,” or “Printmaking,” each led by an adult who has a personal interest and expertise in that area. There are new topics each trimester, and there is a fee to pay for the instructor and supplies.

What sports do you offer?

In the fall and spring, we offer soccer and lacrosse for Grades 4-9, with practices on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays 3:00 – 4:30 pm. Games may also fall on other days of the week. Students in Grade 3 can also participate in organized sports.

In the winter, we offer cross country skiing, Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays (weather permitting).

From January – early March, BCD has “Ski Fridays,” when the school day ends at just after lunch, and the students go to Butternut Ski mountain. We offer bus service, and there is after school care on campus until 3:00 pm if a child chooses to not ski. There is a charge for the ski pass, and each family is responsible for their own equipment.

Students who are active in a sport outside of Berkshire Country Day School are eligible for a waiver from our athletic program, either in full or in part.

Do you offer transportation?

Our bus service covers the Berkshire Hills district towns, Pittsfield, Columbia County, and Hudson NY.  Currently, the Berkshire Hills and Pittsfield busses do a 3:00 pm afternoon run as well as a 4:30 late bus. Please inquire about fees, both round-trip or one-way.

Do you serve lunch?

We do not offer lunch service… students, faculty, and staff all pack their own. Occasionally (typically 8-9 times each year), we hold “Pizza Friday,” where students can order pizza and a drink for a nominal cost. Each class has “Lunch Bunch” about 1-2 times/month, when parents sign up to bring lunch for the whole class. This is a fun way for the kids to try something new and to share a meal together.
