Jilly Lederman is passionate about kids, storytelling, and experiencing new cultures, and says these are the top reasons she loves being a teacher. After spending the first part of her career in academia with teaching at the University of Virginia, Rochester Institute of Technology, and Nazareth College, Jilly Lederman found her home in middle school. A fifth-grade teacher since 2007, Jilly brings her love of languages, travel, world cultures and all things ancient to the fifth-grade classroom where she teaches English, Math, History, and Writer’s Workshop. Each day at BCD, she is thrilled that she gets to incorporate what she loves into helping students expand their minds, try new things, develop their written voices, take risks, and imagine the world as a bigger place. She is the recipient of two Grinspoon Awards for teaching excellence,  and this past summer, she pursued her interest in archaeology as a volunteer on an excavation of a Roman site in Montenegro. Both of her sons are BCD alumni.
