Music Teacher Position 2019-2020

Berkshire Country Day School seeks a dynamic music teacher for a program that engages students from early childhood through middle school.

Responsibilities include regular music classes, vocal ensembles including lower and middle school choruses, and bi-weekly music electives for older students. Duties also include coordination of after-school individual music lessons, directing (and accompanying) programs such as all-school sing assemblies and the third term musical.

The goals of the program include building both individual skills and collaborative capacity. The music teacher collaborates with faculty colleagues to integrate music experiences with other curriculum components, including a commitment to developing musical literacy as well as delight in music-making for all.

The School’s music program is based in the Kim & James Taylor Music and Performance Space, a flexible setting that is scaled appropriately for young children, with a collection of Orff instruments and other music materials on hand. The room is wired for audio and visual presentations and supports both music and movement activities.

Preferred qualifications include experience with early childhood, elementary and middle school students, a personal passion for music and the performing arts, and a willingness to engage creatively in the teaching and learning life of a small school.

This position is likely a ¾ time position and will begin in the last week of August.

1st and 2nd grade Mixed-Age Classroom Teacher

Looking for a creative, experienced, and confident teacher to join our faculty team and support the school’s mission and curricular goals.

The ideal candidate will bring a history of effective team collaboration and demonstrated creativity and innovation to the teaching and the learning process.

Desired qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Elementary Education
  • Relevant teaching experience, ideally in 1st and 2nd grades
  • Experience teaching skills in reading foundations/early literacy
  • Responsive Classroom experience desired, not required
  • Creativity and imagination; demonstrate a joy for teaching and learning
  • Experience and comfort with the social-emotional aspects of classroom teaching (managing issues as they arise, team-building, exploring age-appropriate matters, etc.)
  • Strong communication skills, written and oral

Roles & responsibilities include:

  • Design, plan, implement and assess learning experiences in reading, writing, math and social studies/science
  • Establish and maintain a healthy and trusting learning environment, fostering and nurturing all relationships
  • Provide differentiated instruction for the age levels based on individual needs
  • Regular communication with families about individual progress, classroom happenings and day to day matters as needed
  • Guide students in their social-emotional development through relevant and engaging classroom routines and culture
  • Participate in the school community, including faculty meetings and committee work, school duties, and activities such as assemblies and field trips

Substitute Teachers

Berkshire Country Day School, a Preschool-Grade 9 independent school located between Lenox and Stockbridge, is ready to expand our team! We are interviewing potential substitute teachers for the 2019-2020 school year and beyond. Typically, substitute positions are daily or short-term tenures, but they are also a great way to experience teaching across multiple age groups and/or subject areas at a terrific school with great kids.

Ideal candidates will demonstrate an ability to mentor, motivate, and engage students. Previous classroom teaching experience is desired, but not required.

Berkshire Country Day School is seeking a part-time, after-school teacher for our preschool aged students for the school year 2019-2020.

Monday through Friday, 3:00 pm – 5:30 pm

Desired qualifications:

  • Experience with young children, particularly in an early childhood group setting

  • A sense of creativity and imagination; a desire to have fun with kids
