“Heritage is our line of communication to the past and our map for navigating the future.” Roosevelt Holman

Today in the library, Kindergarten explored the themes of diversity and peace. We began by sharing the book, We All Have A Heritage by Sandy Holman, a advocate for pluralistic education. With beautiful illustrations by Georgian artist Lela Kometiani, this book artfully weaves the cultural aspects of language, clothing, music and other traditions with the singular message that learning about our differences enables us to better respect each other. Scaffolding upon this theme, we read Can You Say Peace, a folk-art style book which takes us on a linguistic journey through different countries. We learned to say “peace”in Japanese, Russian, Spanish, Farsi and several other languages, and discussed what peace means to each of us. What does peace mean to you?
Please return library books so that the students can check out new ones. Happy Reading!
