Why attend an independent school?
The reasons cited over and over again by the 400,000 families who send their children to an independent school include individual attention, small classes, teacher excellence and high academic standards. But the main motive for families looking into independent private schools can be summarized in one word: Quality. They want, quite simply, the best for their sons and daughters.
The National Educational Longitudinal Study (NELS), conducted by the U.S. Department of Education, confirms what independent school families have known for years: larger percentages of students in independent schools are enrolled in advanced courses than in public, parochial, and other private schools.
NAIS students:
- Do twice as much homework as their counterparts;
- Watch two-thirds less television;
- Are significantly more likely to participate in varsity or intramural sports; and
- Are more likely to agree that students and teachers get along well, discipline is fair, and teaching is good.
With results like these, it is not surprising that enrollment in independent schools is increasing at double the rate of all other schools in this country. We invite you to schedule a visit and learn more about BCD and an independent school education.
When can my child come for a visit?
Once you have begun to fill out our application please call Amy Freeman in the Office of Admission to arrange a time to have your student come to experience a “day in the life” of a Berkshire Country Day School student.
On that day your student will be paired up with a student “buddy” in their current grade and attend classes & specials with their classmates. During their class visit day they will be given our in-house assessment, if your student is entering Grades 1-9. Depending on his or her age; your student could spend one hour, or the whole day, at Berkshire Country Day School. We look forward to introducing you and your child to the Berkshire Country Day School community!
