Investing in an independent school
Research by the National Association of Independent Schools shows that families who choose independent schools like Berkshire Country Day School are making a choice for talented, engaging teachers, for a hardworking peer group, and for a community that prioritizes shared responsibility for learning. Independent school families appreciate the focused mission of their schools… a mission that promises, “…we will know your child, love your child, and help your child be successful.”
Our commitment to families
We fully recognize that while our families value the incredible BCD education that’s “quintessentially the Berkshires,” investing in an independent school education can present financial challenges for some. We strive to keep tuition affordable without sacrificing the extraordinary strength of our programs or quality of our faculty, and we budget over $400,000 each year to assist students who might otherwise be unable to take advantage of all that Berkshire Country Day has to offer. We can also help families find creative, manageable ways to pay for their child’s education, including monthly tuition payment plans.
We are deeply committed to cultivating a community of varying perspectives that reflects the diversity of experience of the Berkshires. We encourage all families to apply for admission, regardless of ability to pay full tuition. The admission review process and financial aid review processes occur independently of each other, and your application for financial aid has no bearing on admission decisions.
We know this is a complex process and we are here to help.
If you have any questions at all, please contact us.

The financial aid process
Although all admission decisions are made independently of financial aid decisions, parents should apply for aid online at: www.sssbynais.org/parents as early as possible, and submit their most recent tax return to the school. Returning families’ requests are processed first, then new families are considered on a first come, first served basis. All decisions are based on need, and families must apply for aid each year it is needed.
